What to discuss
Available methods differ in how they are used and how long they last. A consultation should consider your medical history, preferences and future pregnancy plans.
Questions for the clinic
Ask about effectiveness, side effects, reversibility, insertion or removal where relevant, and the total cost. Confirm follow-up and access to ongoing supplies after travel.
Respectful care
Tell the clinic which communication method is safe for you. Ask whether appointment reminders or billing descriptions could reveal the reason for your visit. Avoid sending intimate photographs through an unverified channel.
THE DECISION THAT MATTERS
A useful consultation compares effectiveness, daily effort, bleeding changes, reversibility and how you will obtain care after leaving Korea.
Options to discuss with a clinician
Regular-use methods
Pills, patches and other methods require use on a schedule. Ask how missed use, medicines or travel may affect protection.
Long-acting methods
Implants and intrauterine methods reduce the need for daily action, but require a plan for insertion, review and removal.
Barrier and emergency options
Condoms also help reduce STI transmission. If contraception has failed, seek prompt local advice about emergency options rather than waiting for a planned trip.
Questions specific to this concern
- Which options are suitable given my medical and family history?
- How might bleeding change, and which side effects should prompt review?
- When does protection begin and is additional protection needed initially?
- Where can I obtain supplies or removal at home?
What to bring
Bring your current product name, previous side effects, last menstrual date and medicine list. Explain whether you prefer a hormone-free option, lighter bleeding, less frequent action or a short time to a future pregnancy.
Plan the care after your appointment
Ask for written instructions for missed doses or problems, the product or device name and its review or replacement date. Include insertion, removal and future prescriptions when comparing the overall cost.
