Before contacting a clinic
Choose a private device and a safe way to receive replies. Start with a general question about the service. Ask the clinic for its secure medical-record transfer method before sharing reports or images.
Prepare the essentials
Bring a concise symptom history, medicine and allergy lists, relevant reports and your questions. Ask who will examine you, whether language support is available and whether you may request a chaperone.
Before a procedure
Request the diagnosis, reasonable alternatives, risks and a written quote. Confirm recovery, accommodation, travel restrictions, emergency arrangements and follow-up with a clinician at home.
Your consent remains yours
Ask for each step to be explained. You can ask to pause an examination. Agree separately to any photography or publication. Never feel obliged to accept a procedure because you travelled.
When travel should wait
New severe pain, heavy bleeding with faintness, or another urgent concern needs prompt local medical care rather than a travel booking.
Before requesting an appointment
Describe the type of consultation you need, your preferred dates and language, and whether you already have a diagnosis. Start with general information. Ask for the exact branch and clinician rather than assuming the entire website describes the same appointment.
Check what the quote includes
Request separate amounts for the consultation, imaging, laboratory tests, procedure, anesthesia, medicines and reviews. Ask what is payable if the assessment finds that the proposed treatment is unsuitable, and how cancellations or deposits are handled.
Organize records for a useful review
Keep original images with their reports and dates. Bring a medicine list using generic names where possible, allergies, past procedures and your main questions. Ask whether translation is needed and which secure channel the clinic uses for records.
Plan the time after treatment
Ask the treating clinician how long you should remain near the clinic, when an in-person review is needed and what activity or travel restrictions apply. Request a plan for unexpected changes rather than relying on a standard recovery advertisement.
Leave with a usable care record
Before departure, request the assessment, procedure details if applicable, test results, prescriptions, written aftercare and the next review date. Agree who will explain pending results and which clinician at home can continue care.
When a second opinion helps
If a recommendation is unclear, ask the clinician to explain the alternatives and the consequences of waiting. A second assessment can help you understand a major or irreversible decision. Avoid choosing solely from a package price, ranking or image.
